All about me
Caroline Child dip IHS, BSc Hons
I’m a certified Health Coach (with a diploma in Nutritional and Lifestyle Coaching) living with my husband, children and four-legged friends in the village of Landbeach, just north of Cambridge.
It’s fair to say that I’ve had a lifelong interest in diet and the healing power of food. However, I started delving a bit deeper in my 40’s, when (like many people!) my health took a bit of a downturn and I was diagnosed with a heart condition. I found that making small adjustments to my diet (not just what I ate, but when and also how), prioritising my sleep and taking a fresh look at how I was handling stress, all made a huge difference to my everyday wellbeing and happiness. We can’t change our genetic make-up, but what we do in our day to day life, can play an immense part in keeping many chronic diseases at bay.
Since my nutrition qualification, I have also been lucky enough to work on the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme for a few years, coaching hundreds of people in Cambridgeshire through the nine month programme to reverse their pre-diabetes. I’m also an experienced online coach for the NHS Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission Programme. I therefore have a wealth of knowledge, tips and recommendations on weight management, how to keep your blood sugar balanced and cravings at bay.
I enjoy meeting clients of all ages and backgrounds, but my other special area of interest is ageing well, so if you are 40+ and beginning to think it’s all downhill from here, do get in touch to see if I can help put a spring back in your step!
Prior to working in nutrition, I ran a cafe and deli with my husband for many years. So I am a bit of a foodie and still enjoy baking. I mention this because I don’t believe any foods should be off limits and I’m a firm believer in freedom around food and avoiding the guilt we sometimes associate with eating.
I have three children mostly still at home, so understand that whilst cooking is sometimes a pleasure, it can also be a chore when feeding a hungry household! If you have lost the joy in cooking, we can explore practical ways of organising your meals and recipes so that the bulk of your meals are simple to prepare. When I’m not thinking or talking about food, you’ll find me on a countryside walk with our dog or weekend rowing on the Cam - a sport I’ve rediscovered after a 30 year gap!
My Scope of Practice
I studied at the Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) in Dublin, and am a member of the UK & International Health Coaches Association (UKIHCA).
